Base – The base of the floodlight refers to the type of mounting fixture. For example, some mounting options, such as trunnion mounts, allow floodlights to be cast from side to side. Other mounting options, such as the Slip Fitter Mount, include mounting the light on a pole.

Color Temperature (Kelvin) – Kevin or color temperature basically corresponds to the color of the projected light, which is also related to heat. LED floodlights generally come in two different measurements: 3000K to 6500K.

DLC Listed – DLC stands for Design Light Consortium and certifies that the product can operate at high energy efficiency levels.

Dusk to Dawn Lights – A dusk to dawn light is any light that turns on automatically after the sun begins to set. Some LED floodlights can be fitted with light sensors for use as a dusk-to-dawn light. Lenses – The type of lens used by the lighting fixture will affect how the light is dissipated. Two common types are clear glass or frosted glass.

Lumens – Lumens measure the total amount of light emitted per unit of time. This unit mainly measures the brightness of light.

Photocells – Photocells use sensors to detect the level of lighting available outside and turn on when necessary. In other words, once it gets dark, the lights will come on. Some LED floodlights are photocell compatible and can be used as “dusk to dawn lights”.

Shorting Cap – The shorting cap contains the shorting connection between the line and the receptacle load to keep the light on at all times when power is supplied.

Voltage – Voltage refers to the amount of work required to move a test charge between two points per unit of charge. For LED lighting, this is the amount of power the lighting device provides to the bulb.

Wattage – Wattage refers to the power projected by a lamp. Generally speaking, higher wattage lamps will project more lumens (brightness). LED floodlights are available in a wide range of power. This ranges from 15 watts all the way up to 400 watts.
